The ride is built around the transformation that made modern Barcelona: how a working port city turned to face the sea for the 1992 Olympic Games. From the saddle, that story is physical — you feel the old grid of La Barceloneta give way to the open promenade, the beaches, the marinas and the towers of the Olympic port.
La Barceloneta itself is the soul of the route: a triangular quarter built in the 1750s for families displaced by the citadel, its narrow streets still hang laundry over bars that have served fishermen for generations. Your guide threads the neighbourhood’s stories — sailors, cooperatives, beach kiosks — before the route opens out along the water.
The final stretch turns inland through the Parc de la Ciutadella, the city’s great green room, built over the demolished fortress that once watched the city — with its cascade fountain, palm houses and the Catalan parliament — and ends beneath the brick Arc de Triomf, gateway of the 1888 Universal Exposition.
