Where is the Dalí Museum and how far is it from Barcelona?

The Dalí Theatre-Museum is in Figueres, capital of the Alt Empordà, about a hundred and forty kilometres north of Barcelona and roughly two hours by road. As a private day trip it begins and ends in Barcelona, with transport arranged to suit your group.

Did Salvador Dalí really design the museum himself?

Yes. Dalí conceived the Teatre-Museu over the ruins of Figueres’ old theatre, opened it in 1974 and reworked it until his death in 1989. It is a single work by the artist rather than a conventional gallery, and he is buried in a crypt beneath the stage.
